From China, the Hokkiens brought the Ong Yah deities to Melaka in the 18th century. The descendants of them are Babas who like their ancestors are very religious and obedient. The Babas started the Wangkang Festival 173 years ago at a village called Kandang in 1845. Mr. Ken Lai, the Chairman of the Wangkang prayers and procession sub-committee in 2012 had said, " We have received the recognition from the Heritage Department of Malaysia to list the Wangkang Event as a Living Heritage of Malaysia as it is a unique ceremony held once in a decade not seen in any part of the World outside of Taiwan and Mainland China. A lot of items related to Ong Yah deities are today rare exhibits of the taoism, a Chinese philosophy attributed to Lao Tzu. Construction of the Cultural Museum of Yong Chuan Tian is planned to kick-off this year end and expected to be completed before the Wangkang 2020.
